The Error i get when trying to use remote assitance on a
computer on my network is

" The Remote Assistance connection could not be
established. You may want to check for network issues or
determine if the invitation expired or was cancelled by
the person who sent it"

Both computers run xp home. and are on a router with dsl.

Invitation didnt expired and was not canceled. just
doesnt connect for some reason.

How do you fix this ?

just gave same error in previous message

Sure, either by email or the file method. I recommend
the file method over a local network. See this
small page that illustrates how to do that and how to
modify the expiration time to a longer period

When attempting a remote assistance connection with someone on the internet
via msn messenger 6.0, i found that helpctr.exe also needs to have access or
it won't connect with a variety of errors.

This may or may not be of help to you, but i am sure someone can use it.

the real deal

Okay, here it is:

If you're trying to connect to someone who is behind a router for remote assistance, and the firewalls have either been turned off or set to allow remote assistance connections, then you need to have the sending user do the following:

1. have them go to whatsmyip.org in order to find out what their public IP address is

2. you will probably have to set their router to forward port 3389 (the remote assistance port)

now, you will have to do the following:

1. have the novice send you a remote assistance request through e-mail, when you receive it, save the file to your desktop, and open it with notepad

2. change the IP address from 192.168.xxx.xxx to the address they got from whatsmyip.org

save the file, and double click it...you should now connect to their PC

I had this issue for a while and found KB925876 to be the problem. The new RD tries to authenticate before establishing the connection, which is probably what caused Remote Assist to time out when sending the Expert invitation.
