Remote Assistance and Outlook Express

Ewa

Hi,

I use the MS Windows XP Professional ver. 2002 SP1.
The MS Outlook Express ver. 6.00.2800.1123 is my default e-mail program.
(I haven't installed any other program).
I have 1 e-mail account (with 1 alias).

When I want to initiate Remote Assistance via e-mail:
Start -> Help and Support -> Invite a friend to connect to your computer
with Remote Assistance -> Invite someone to help you
the following information is shown:
Outlook Express is not set up
Remote Assistance is either incompatible with the default e-mail
program on this computer, or could not detect a default e-mail account.
After clicking on the button "Setup Outlook Express" - nothing happens.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Ewa

If you open IE on your desktop and go to "Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs" is OE listed as the
default email program?

Yes, it is.

See if reregistering OE help...

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]#link3

Otherwise a work around is to generate a Remote Assistance file and send that manually with your
email program...

You also might post this problem to one of the Outlook Express news groups for help with OE, like
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for example.

In the Outlook Express main window, pull down the Tools menu, Select
Accounts, click tab Mail. Select with a single click the e-mail account you
wish Remote Assistance mails to be sent via, and then click button "Set as
Default". This account must have an SMTP server account configured.

Unfortunately it didn't help. :-(

Yes, I know.

In fact it's not for me but for my colleague who wants to ask me for the assistance.
She is not a very experienced user so I wanted to make the procedure as simple
as possible.
Do you think there is a chance that when she asks me for the assistance via e-mail
(provided her OE works porperly), I'll be able to help her via e-mail despite my problem?
You also might post this problem to one of the Outlook Express news groups for help with OE, like

I might do it.

Thanks.

It is set exactly like that. Besides, I have only one e-mail account.

I think you might be a bit confused here... If its your colleague that is need of assistance then
she is the one that sends the RA invitation by Messenger, Email or File methods.

Of course, if you have a problem with OE you should get that fixed. It, however, should have nothing
to do with you accepting her invitation for help using RA...

I know but I wanted to try it first (as I were her) to be able to tell her what to do.

That's good :).

I've checked the data in the register shown in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306098 (the link to this
article was in the google-page you suggested). In my register
everything was OK.

I think I'll post the OE news group.

Thanks once again.
