Remembering mapped drive password

I have some shared folders on a peer to peer network that all require a
password to get access. On the Windows 98 machines the password can be
remembered after the first login so that it is always available from that
machine in the future. On XP machines the password always has to be input
manually even if the machine has accessed that resource before. Can I
change that?

Basically I want the 3 machines that use this resource to auto connect and
the user password on boot is my protection, but other computers can't
connect because they do not know the password, HOWEVER if the XP machine
will not login automatically the user writes the password down to remember
it and the security is lost! I want it so only I know the share password so
I can decide which machines can access it but they must do it without user
intervention once I set it up.

1.)Acesss the network shares
2.)Right click on them and hit Map Network Drive and chk the box saying
Reconnect at Logon.
3.)Access the resource and input the password and select the option to
remmeber the password.

What you suggest is what I do on the Windows 98 machines but on the XP Home
machine I do not get an option to remember the password !
