RELOADED XP--NO SOUND

Over the last few days I had to reload my entire system. I have been
gradually getting it to function but cannot seem to get sound. It is a Dell
8400 systyem and ruinning XP2-PRO which I have reinstalled SP3.
All programs that use sound tell me I have no sound card but it is built
into the mother board and was fine prior to XP reinstall. I believe I
installed the driver but that shouldn't show as no card even if I had not,
correct?
Your help is appreciated.

You need to install the sound driver that came with your computer. Dell
has complete reinstall instructions on its website, or you can contact
Dell support.

If your computer uses on-board sound hardware you also need to enable
that hardware in the BIOS.

I was sure that your suggestion was overly simplistic as it took me a two
hour chat with a Dell tech to reinstall XP as there are many errors in their
reinstall disk,
BUT it worked fine and I now have sound. BIOS was ok it must have installed
wrong drivers first time.
Thank you
