I get this message from time to time when trying to send a message. It only
happens from my laptop and I can overcome the problem by doing a Send/Receive
before I resend the messge.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like the smtp server expects you to check for mail first. Are you
running Outlook 2003 or an older version of Outlook?

for outlook 2003, try tools | email accounts | view/change accounts |
highlight pop3 account | properties | more options button | outgoing server
tab. there is a checkbox about 1/2 down that you can check to logon to the
pop3 server first.

for outlook 2000, there is no such option. (try setting mail checks to 5
mins and keep your fingers crossed that it works.)
