Reinstalling XP Home edition with diffrent cd but legal key

Hi I need to reinstall my friends Windows XP Home to his laptop but I dont
have the original CD but I have the purchased legal Key, would this be
pausible with no problems?

As long as you use the identical version. If the laptop came with XP it is
likely OEM, so you cannot use a retail CD to do the reinstall, you have to
use an OEM CD.

Contact your Computer Manufarer if its OEM, if you're not sure contact MS
Customer Service 1-800-936-5700 option 0. They can verify what type of
license your using.

I also have the same problem.My laptop came with the Windows XP Home
installed.
I have to re-install but the Recovery CD has got corrupted.How do I know if
it is an OEM s/w or retail?Can you give me the e-mail ID for contacting MS?

If your laptop was purchased new, it's almost certainly an OEM version,
and you should contact the manufacturer.
