Reinstalling Windows XP

I have XP SP1 CD., supplied with PC. I also installed SP2. Can I uninstall
SP2 to utilise my SP1 CD?
Also, if that is possible, can I reinstall that CD 'on top' of the original
installation?

You don't want to uninstall SP2. You want to make a new installation cd
with SP2 slipstreamed into it. Doing this is very easy. I like
AutoStreamer but there are other methods:

How to slipstream sp2 into XP

Hey lock,

You can definately use your XP sp1 cd to reinstall windows but you must
format and do a clean install of windows. You should be able to remove sp2
from the Control panel > add or remove programs. But if you are just wanting
to reinstall windows and aren't trying to get rid of sp2 then I would suggest
that you should slipstream your cd and create a new install cd w/ sp2 on it.
You can get detailed instructions that are really easy to follow from

Paul Thurrott's Super Site for Windows here:

Need to Know

I've done this with a "System Restore". I once tried to remove SP2 via CP
and all kinds of bad things happened. I'm not a huge fan of Sys Restore, but
in this case all was well and good.
