Reinstall Fails after loading setup

Iam trying to do clean reinstall. I get through loading of setup files and
the computer is supposed to reboot and take me to the Windows Setup Wizard
for the rest of the installation.

BUT, it just goes back and restarts the loading of setup file. I have
seledted to format a new partition in two places but this does nothing to
help.

I was running SP2 before but I an try ing to starf all over and load from
scratch.

Any suggestions for trouble shooting???????

To do a clean install, boot the Windows XP install CD-Rom. Setup inspects
your computer's hardware configuration and then begins to install the setup
and driver files. When the Windows XP Professional screen appears, press
ENTER to set up Windows XP Professional.

(Note: If your drive controller is not natively supported then you'll want
to boot the Windows XP CD-Rom. Then *F6* very early and very important (at
setup is inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller
detection, and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be
prompted to insert the manufacturer supplied Windows XP driver for your
drive controller in drive "A")

Read the license agreement, and then press the F8 key to accept the terms of
the license agreement and continue the installation.

When the Windows XP Professional Setup screen appears, all the existing
partitions and the unpartitioned spaces are listed for each physical hard
disk. Use the ARROW keys to select the partitions Press D to delete an
existing partition, If you press D to delete an existing partition, you must
then press L (or press ENTER, and then press L if it is the System
partition) to confirm that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this
step for each of the existing partitions When all the partitions are deleted
press F3 to exit setup, (to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with
your new install) then restart the pc then when you get to this point in
setup again select the unpartitioned space, and then press C to create a new
partition and specify the size (if required). Windows will by default use
all available space.

Be sure to apply SP2 or at least these two below to your new install before
connecting to any network. Internet included. (sasser, msblast)

When doing a install ensure the 1st boot device is the CD ROM, the
hard drive (HDD0) should be set as the 2nd boot device.... doing it
this way you will boot from the CD and will install some files then
will say "Will reboot in ### seconds" it is at this stage
that you must take the CD ROM out as on the reboot you want to be
booting from the hard drive... if you leave the CD ROM in on reboot
it will go back to the beginning of the format sequence which you
don't want.

I like to set the 1st boot as the CD ROM and then disable all the
other boot drives. When I come to the reboot stage I remove the CD go
into bios and set HDD0 as the 1st boot device and I leave all the
other disabled and carry on with the final install.

Note:
You only need the HDD0 set as 1st boot from here on... as you will
never want to boot from any other drive after installation, this does
knock a couple of seconds of the boot up time. You should not need to
do the first part of the install again ~ wait until the computer asks
you to insert the disc before continuing. After the install you will
want the mobo chipset drivers etc.

I think this is the problem that you are having, guess how I found
out...?

Thanks. Problem I had was my manufacturer moboard files were on CD and I was
not sure which ones would be drive controller for this SATA drive.

So in experimenting I hooked up and old IDE Hard disk and it installed OK!
probably not the best but hopefully it be OK until Vista comes along.

I did delete some files in reformatting so have been using a data recover y
program to snare some also I have most backed up over on a networked notebook
and can pull them over.

I do have probem. In my Start>all programs I don't have accessories,
systems tools and Freecell!!!

I did the Add New programs and and window components and I have that block
checked but they don't show up and it does not prompt me to put my Win XP CD
in drive.

Any ideas on how to recover this items. I do need system restore pretty
quick>>>

The files named oemsetup.inf, txtsetup.oem, and the *.sys file for your
drive controller are what's required on the floppy.

I'd start a new thread for the other issue.
