2 xp installations, attempting to fix the corrupt installation

Hi,

Last week, I had 1 xp installation which worked fine. I tried to upgrade my
BIOS. This lead to the machine being unable to boot up, it would load the
windows , it would give the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error, as advised by
article 297185, I tried chkdsk, fixboot and fixmbr, all to no avail.

I tried to install xp again and used the repair option, this lead to setup
loading and then showing a blue screen. Upon rebooting, windows would now run
chkdsk due to the reboot and then run the setup (repair) again and then just
reboot. this was repeativie.

I have now installed xp again to the same hard drive (different folder) and
it works ok. However it still gives me the option at boot up of choosing the
previous xp installation and if chosen it goes back to old routine of running
chdsk and loading xp setup.

My question is, how can I get the previous xp to work? I dont want to use
the new install, only installed it to see if it would work.

What can i edit so the last install wouldn't go into setup and try to load
xp instead?

Advise would be appreciated.

You may well not be able to get the original install working again. What you
can do is migrate your settings over...

When you're done with that you'll want to just remove the old installation
by removing the files associated with it to clear out space and editing the
boot.ini to reflect the change to a single OS...
