Registry Key - Can't Delete - HELP

LinuxMan

I'm running XP Professional and I need some help. I have a registry key
named, "BTIEIN" that I can't delete. I've tried to log in as administrator,
but this key won't delete in regedit. Any ideas???

I've already run SpyBot to remove the trojan Huntbar, which I believe this
reg. key is associated.

right click the key and select permissions.
Give administrators full control.
Delete.

Tried that. XP won't let me change permissions, even logged on as
administrator. Also, XP won't tell me how the owner is either. I'm stumped
on this one.

Reboot and at the login screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice. This will reveal
the System Administrator account. Log in with this account and try deleting
the file. If this does not work, boot into Safe Mode and do it from there.

Tried that too. No dice. I've read on various websites that this registry
key may be impossible to delete. Any other workarounds other than a
reformat and reinstall?

Another thought is system restore. I can't do a system restore because I
don't have a restore point prior to the infection of BTIEIN (pronounced
"beaten").

Anyway, it looks like I'm really beaten by this one until someone comes up
with a fix.

Not sure if you did a web search. Here's some more info:

The registry key cannot be deleted as long as it is associated with a
running process.
Go to the following website and read about the files and settings that this
spyware places on the system. All of the files must be deleted/unregistered
before you can delete the registry entries.

Dude - I had the same problem and killed a weekend trying to delete it.
Here's the big SECRET of how to do it: You must be signed on to XP as
the person who d'loaded the friggin virus to begin with. Then it will
let you delete the keys with regedit. It's true, all that crap about
setting the permissions/owner on the reg key doesn't work if you're not
signed in as the original user.
Good luck - if it works you owe me a beer.
