Registry clean or format and reinstall XP?

Hi,

I am running low on time, but my PC is acting up. Mainly I think due
to installing Norton AV. I tried uninstalling Norton and it crashed
with the "send to Microsoft" dialog. There's nothing I can do to
uninstall it correctly, even with their "uninstall tool"

Anyway, is a format necessary, or can I get by with registry optimizing
with an optimizer like 4diskclean or registry mechanic or something?

What would you do?

How about a restore to a time before you deleted Norton? Or maybe to a
time before you installed Norton?

Good luck, jimbo
