registry affected after removal of spyware

I recently removed several spyware programs form my computer. Now IE6 (I have Win XP) cannot open any URLs, regarless if they are typed in the address bar, the run box, or clicked on as a hyperlink. Every other aspect of my network and internet works, including other browsers. I have even tried to re-download IE6 with theses other browsers, hoping to uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer, but the non microsoft browsers cannot open some of the windowsupdate web pages. After wasting a couple hours with a campus it staffer, he concluded there must be a problem in the registry... Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you.

Reinstall or Repair IE / OE in Windows XP

Try IEFix: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm

Or, try the manual procedure below:

First, try reinstalling from the INF files.
Click Start/Run/Type "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection
DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\ie.inf"
This fixes most problems. If not, see below:

[As stated, set the registry key "IsInstalled" to 0. If not, you may be
unable to reinstall IE/OE]
Unable to Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP:

General Advisory: Double-check if you have changed the correct registry key.
Because, there are several similar keys in that location. Visit MVP Kelly
Theriot's page: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
and download the fix named "Enable reinstallation of internet explorer".
This fix changes the IsInstalled flag automatically.
Restart Windows and start Internet Explorer setup again.
