Reg terminal server setup

Sudhir

Hi,
I am installing a terminal server for the first time on a
windows 2000 server machine.
It says that I can use this only for 90 days. But i
remember that i donot need to buy a license as long as i
have the windows 2000 server license. After checking on
the internet, this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;291807 confirms me that i need not buy a license..But i
have to activate the license..Could Somebody let me know
how to do this.
Thanks
Sudhir

The article that you found (291807) applies to a situation where
you connect from one W2K server to another W2K server, which is
running TS. In other words, when you are using a W2K server as a
Terminal Server client, you don't need to buy a TS Client Access
License for that server.

I assume that you are going to connect from "normal" clients as
well. If these clients run W2K Pro or XP Pro, you don't need to
buy a TS CAL either. For all other desktop Operating Systems (NT
4.0, W9x, Macintosh, Unix), you must buy a TS CAL.

Whatever your license requirements, you must install a TS
Licensing Server, since the free TS CALs that are granted to W2K
Pro and XP Pro clients (and W2K Servers) are issued by the LS.
This LS has to be installed on your Domain Controller (if you have
a W2K domain).

Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Add Windows Components
- Terminal Services - Select only the Licensing Services.
After installation, you have to activate it.
