Reformatting Computer

Hey guys, recently a trojan hit my computer, and I was unable to get rid of
it. My security system supposedly put it in quarantine, but I don't think is
working. I tried doing system restore and it didn't work, so I scanned system
restore and indeed there was a trojan installed. I tried to do it in safe
mode, but nothing is working, so my last option is to wipe clean my hard
drive. I have four of the five disks for reformatting my hard drive, but I am
missing one. Is there a way I could acquire the missing cd from Microsoft, or
what else can I do. Thanks for your help.

Try to flush the Restore Points which infected by doing this step:

Right click My Computer Icon >> Select properties. On System properties
Windows click on System Restore Tab.

On System Restore Tab check this check Box:
[ ] Turn OFF System Restore on all drives

Click [Apply] then [OK] it may take a while to clear the points if you
clicked Apply.

Hit F5 then repeat the process again but this time try to Uncheck the Turn
OFF system restore onm all drive and Click [Apply] then [OK].

Download these two software and update their definitions and run a complete
scan for malware, then run your Anti-virus scan and see if it will report all
clean.

If System Restore itself is infected then Disable it - Shutdown and Start up
again

That will eliminate the Virus from Sys Rst

Then run your AV Prog again and if clean then Re-Enable Sys Rest

You'll lose all your previous Restore Points but it will start creating them
again

Try that before wiping your HDD

Unfortunately for you - what you seem to have is a recovery set from the
OEM - not from Microsoft.

Windows XP (in most forms) is a single installation CD and product key.
Other applications vary in number of CD/DVDs.

If what you have is an OEM system recovery/restoration set - you would need
to contact said OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) to see what you could
do about obtaining a new set.

Sounds like the trojan is plugged into Winlogon. If that is the case none of
these virus applications nor spyware programs will get rid of it because
they don't suspent the Winlogon service, kill explorer, remove the files
then restart explorer, which is what you need to do

To get a missing CD from Microsoft you need to be able to prove the licence
& proof of purchase then they will send it out to you
