Reformating

My computer seems to be having a ton of problem lately. I most likely have a
virus. My problem is I can't find my Windows XP CD. Is there any way I can
reformat my hard drive and install XP again without paying for it? Like can I
find a registration code on my computer or something to prove I have paid for
it? If you have any ideas please let me know :)
Thanks

You need to have a physical CD in order to reinstall Windows. You can
borrow one from a friend, but it needs to be the same version as what
is installed on your machine (ex. XP Home, retail or OEM, etc.). To
find the key, you can run Magical Jellybean Finder. Or if this is an
OEM machine, look for a sticker on the machine.

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the PC.

If it is an OEM like a HP or Compaq, the Recovery system should be on the D
partition and to the best of my knowledge, in this particular case, you
don't need a key to reformat and reinstall.

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.
