Believe it or not, I am very likely considerably older than you, and I well
remember the times before all those things. And I first started working
professionally with computers as an IBM 1401 programmer in 1962

I think it was wpm-3, both Avast and Windows Live Care picked it up
but it keeps coming back

Run the AV's in safe mode and also a Repair Install will not remove a virus.
