Redirect default File Location

I would like to know how to change the default File Location for IE. We have
special applications that run in Internet Explorer and we have to save the
current page we are working on. To do this we go to File> Save As It
defaults to My Documets but I need for it to go to a network share. I tried
to change the Download Directory location but that only chaged the "Save
Target As" when you right click on a link?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi Stephen :)

You might try the following and see if it helps:

Before doing the following, if you don't already have a specific folder
where you want the files to be saved, you should create the new folder and
make sure you have the path information written exactly as it is so that you
can enter it for the new file path correctly.

*CAUTION*: Be sure you BACKUP the Registry before making any changes -
To specify the default download directory for the Internet Explorer

1.. Start Regedit
2.. Go to HKEY_USERS \ .DEFAULT \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer
3.. Add a String value called Download Directory
4.. For it's value, enter in the Directory where you want your downloaded
files to go
If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan,
this only worked for the "Save Target As" or when I am trying to download
something. What I am looking for is, if you right now goto File> Save As -
and try to save the web page you are viewing, the default location will be My
Documents. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen :)

Try this and see if it's what you need:

How to Change the Default "Save As" Location in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q258867&

or....

Save As location change

To change the default folder to which Internet Explorer will save items, you
must change the value for Personal in the following registry keys to specify
the new location:
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

also....

You can download TweakUI from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstat...g/NTTweakUI.asp
The tab you are looking for is called My Computer and the lower area has a
location of special folders option.

I followed the KB article to the letter but it did not help? I will take a
look at tweak UI and get back to you.

Hi Stephen :)
Instead of using TweakUI I found Tweakautomatic @
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/tools/twkmatic.mspx This
enabled me to write a scitp to change this setting on any computer on my
network by placing it in a logon script. Thanks for your help ;)

You're very welcome! Glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem.
Good job!

Thank you for posting back and letting us know what worked for you, and for
the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem. :)
