Red "x" In A White Square Instead of JPG Images

For years, I have been going to a particular website (www.shsa.de)and have
been viewing all his images when loging in. Less than two weeks ago, maybe
sooner, the webmaster changed his log-in procedures and even though I am a
registered user on that site, I cannot view some images. This is the problem.

I can view images behind a small gray square with an eye and the words Jpg
Image. (Below the image it states for members only.) On the same page ,
there are thumb nails (small pictures) that anyone can see. If your a member
of that site, you can click on the image, which will enlarge it so you can
see it better. But the problem is that when you click on the image, instead
of getting enlarged, in the upperleft portion, it shows the red "x" in a
small white square and next to it, it says what the image suppose to be.
I've checked the knowledge base where if you right click on the image.......
but the only problem on this site is a copy right protection so no one can
download the pictures (you can download them from another way). I've posted
the problem on the site's message board and it seems I am the only one having
this problem. Oddly, if I go to other sites, I can view jpg and other images
at other sites.

I am running WinXP professional; IE6.0 sp2; have Norton Internet Security
and other programs installed.

Any help with this problem would be appreciated. I am running out of
solutions.

Thank you in advance.

1. Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283807

2. Disable NAV's Script Blocking and see if problems persist.

3. Disable NIS and see if problems persist.

if that doesn't work (and on the OP's indicated site, I read through the msg
board where the OP says that the same problem exists even when using other
computers), then I'd suggest looking at the html code from a failed URL - and
maybe the HTTP response headers from a broken image.

Posting actual URLs here would be helpful. (You can look at the page source,
since right-click is disabled by javascript there.)

I tried all the steps but still the problem persists. I tried viewing the
website on another computer, followed the steps and got the same
results...red "x" in a white square. I even used Firefox 1.0 on both
computers and got the same results as above. I even contacted a friend at
work who tried using a network linked computer and he got the same results as
I did. What can I do? Can anyone help me (again?)

Then you don't have the same problem, do you?

IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Printing>Print background colors and
images

Can you post a sample URL?

Are these all machines on a network at a place of business or an institution
(e.g., university)?

If you View>Source on any of those pages, you'll see that many of the images
are embedded and are actually produced by links to other web-pages (e.g.,
http://shampooist.com/bb/index.php?c=6,
http://shampooist.com/bb/index.php?c=4).

As all of the machines where these Red X's appear are on networks, I'd
imagine the network and/or firewall settings may be blocking them.

There are other images on those pages which require that you to be logged-in
as a Registered User in order to be able to view them.

PS: You're not missing anything much IMHO. <w>

since we are not registered, the php program will only kick us to the home
page - maybe meanwhile assigning a session ID. I, for one, can't see the page
with your broken image.

what you can do is go to that simple page above with the broken image, click
View/Source, and paste the results here. Then it can be seen where the image
is hosted at. Then you might try a ping or traceroute to see whey you're not
getting through.

Bear, the webmaster at the site did mention on the msg board that I saw that
the images are hosted via ImageShack, and who knows how many discrete servers
they are running

Hi SFGiants Fan :)

Just to throw it in with the rest of the suggestions, but, it may not be a
solution:

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low

2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low

3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.
