Red Images displayed on Ebay

Hi all...

I am using Internet Explorer 6 (i have the latest SP's) and running
symantec anti-virus corporate on my machine. I have seen many people
with the "red X" problem, but when i go to ebay.com, all the images on
the site (i checked them and they are gifs) display in RED, i.e. the
entire image is plain red and if i save the image it stays red. It also
does it on some other sites and displays other image formats, just not
all.

I think this is different from the red X problem and i have set the IE
options to default. I have also tried clearing all temp files, history,
cookies, etc. but with no luck.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Check the settings of any security/ad-blocker programs that are installed.
It's possible that these are being blocked simply because they're GIFs of a
certain size. You might be able to verify that a third-party program,
toolbar or BHO (Browser Helper Object) is causing the problem by disabling
add-ons (XP SP2)

[XP SP2] From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. Disable non-microsoft add-ons to
see if one of them is the culprit.
[Non SP2] Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third-party browser
extensions." If either of these helps, you still need to find the
troublesome program, BHO or add-on.

Another test...
Try this test *very* briefly because you'll be running with security
programs shutdown.
Startup in Safe Mode with Networking.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 Hit EBay then
disconnect from the internet. If the problem goes away, a program that
didn't load in Safe Mode is causing it. Look at
security, privacy, ad-blockers, etc. to find that program and disable the
troublesome feature.

Hope this helps,
Don
