Red lettering/alt code

By accident, I switched something on the computer so the red alt codes show
up instead of what I really want. Like instead of a question mark, I get the
capital E with an accent. How can I fix that? Help.

I had a similiar problem except is was my apostrophe ' and quote " keys. I
had to go into regional settings and change the keyboard and language input
from English (Canada) to English US. I guess if you use canadian english
it is expected you actually use the grave and acute accents a lot. I would
have thought that would be French Canadian, not English.

I have also had this happen and can't figure out how to make it go away. All
of a sudden when I started typing the "red" keys showed us so that, for
example, for a question mark, I got a capital E. Of course, when I'm typing
now, it isn't happening!

Changing to English US didn't help. Anyone else know what I can do? Thanks
for any help.

Leslie,

This is what has happened to me several times, again, not in this textbox.
I actually called once and was told to hold down a certain key. Can I
remember which one it is tonight? But, I know it is not about changing
settings. I would like to use the French keys when I need them mostly for
French names.

Hi Kathleen and thanks for your reply. I actually solved my problem by going
to System Restore. After that, the keys were back to normal. I wonder if
it would have helped if I'd even just restarted my computer.

I have no idea what made the keys go wonky in the first place!
