Recycle bin:cannot see files

G

geoff

System:WindowsXP Home(OEM)SP1
When the Recycle bin is opened, deleted files do not
show, the window is empty. The problem applies even if
the volume of files in the bin is small.
The option to delete files bypassing the recyle bin is
NOT set.
The Recycle bin icon shows there are files in the bin.
Right clicking on the icon and selecting empty the bin
brings up the usual message with the number of files to
be deleted. After emptying the bin, the icon shows empty.
As no files can be seen, restoring does not work.
System restore has failed to cure the problem.
Help please to get the files back into view.
