receiving all emails held under previous addys when creating a new

just bought a laptop and am attempting to load email. Am using same details
(user id etc) to connect to existing ISP but using a new email address rather
than my husbands. Only trouble is, each time I switch on, I can't do
anythiong because it is downloading over 9000 emails which must be held on
the server under his old email address which had to be changed due to the
large number of spam emails.
I also appear to be getting emails he has already received in his own inbox.
Is there anything I can do to stop it? It almost seems like the last email to
be downloaded may be sticking and so prevents a signal being sent to the
server to say they have all been downloaded into the inbox, and , therefore,
I keep receiving them EVERY time I connect.

If you are using a new email address, it should have a different
username than what your husband uses, so it is not at all
normal that you would be downloading email for his username.
Each mailbox on the server should have a unique username.
