RealTek card no longer seen

I find that, after not booting to Windows 2000 for about 5 or 6 days, now it
no longer recognizes my RealTek 8139 Ethernet card. I downloaded the latest
driver and tried Update Driver on the device's properties page, pointing it
to that driver, but Windows complains that no appropriate driver exists for
this device. I'm wondering if this is the result of some recent Critical
Update I installed around the last time I ran Windows.

RedHat 8 Linux has no problem at all with this card.

Make sure that you have the correct .inf file in the directory that you
unzip all the drivers files to.

Don't know if you are trying the latest drivers or not but here's a link to
what I found are the latest drivers (from 9/5/2003):
