RealOne hijacks system volume control. How to fix?

Despite its faults, I like to use the free RealOne Player as my main player.
(Windows Media Player doesn't play RealMedia files.) However, the one thing
that makes me practically detest it is that the volume control from within
the program actually changes the system volume. Specifically, it changes the
Wave and CD Audio levels. Is there _any_ way to stop it from doing this and
have it adjust only its own volume?

Many thanks.

That is the way that a volume control in any media application is
going to work.

That's not how Windows Media Player does it. Its volume control does not
affect the system's volume control.
There is usually only ONE sound device in a computer. Make changes to
the volume using any program, and the change will be reflected in the
Volume Control in the Notification Area of the taskbar.

Did you try the proposed test of changing volume in WMP, then seeing what
effect it has on the volume slider in the Notification Area?

I did and have again. I adjust the WMP8 volume bar while looking at the
entire volume bar. Only the volume in WMP changes. This is also evidenced by
the fact that the volume of Winamp's music didn't change either. I did this
same test with Winamp, and again, only Winamp's volume changed. In my
experience, only RealOne changes the entire system's volume. (I thought this
was normal.)

I _do_ note, however, that the volume in my sound editor, GoldWave, _does_
adjust itself along with Winamp's current volume. However, changes in WMP do
not affect GoldWave. Strange stuff ...

Must be an improvement in WMP. It used to hijack the volume controls
just exactly like Real One does. But now it seems to not bother them.

Sorry for my previous post not being accurate.

However Real One will hijack the volume controls and seems to be no
way around it.

Thanks. Man, that's so annoying.
