Really Slow logon

Hi guys/gals
I am running win2000 pro (Fresh install) with service pack4. i dont log on
to any domain but i have changed the workgroup. After installing service
pack4 my machine just takes hours and i mean hours to log on. it get's past
the "applying settings" box then nothing happens. If i hit ctrl+al+delete and
select log off and then log back in i'm at my decktop in no time. I have done
many virus scans with norton, Avg, and a few on-line one's (Panda, housecall
ect...) but nothing.
any idears as this is really doing my head in!!!

Try right-clicking My Computer, selecting Manage and in the Computer
Management Console expand the Event Viewer node. Select 'System' and trace
the events exactly at and after your login time and see what is failing or
if there are any warnings. This should at least narrow down what the issue
may be.
