Real time protection disabled.

Hi.

Anyone else noticed that MSAS's real time protection is disabled every now
and then? I am experiencing that it is but don't know why but a theory I
have is that after shutting down MSAS because of fear it will interfere with
a batch or vbs file and later rebooting the PC it then seems to have the
real time protection disabled.

Can anyone confirm this or can it be something buggy with my copy of MSAS or
something else!? For your info...have XP Pro SP2 and no malicious on my PC
according scans and such I have been doing with fully updated AV and Spyware
scanning programs.

Cheers....Gunilla.

Do I recall correctly that you aren't running any Norton products?
I haven't seen your experience, but I seldom reboot more than once a day,
and on laptops far less times. I do periodically turn of Microsoft
Antispyware for similar reasons to yours, but haven't observed a
problem--usually I just shut it down from the system tray icon, and then run
it again via the Start menu.

Yes Bill you recall correctly....I do not run any Norton products beside
Symantecs Extrator Service. This happens always after I have shut MSAS down
via system tray icon and then after the reboot I see that it is disabled.

I saw it this morning too after starting up the PC because yesterday I also
shut it down via system tray icon before ending for the night. Must be some
bug I guess!? I use to check it out these days when knowing about this
behavior. Maybe something I have is interfering with MSAS but don't know
quite what it could be? I have ProtoWall as the only thing I could imagine
then but it would not stop MSAS from having the real time protection
enabled. I will try to disable ProtoWall the next reboot and see what
happens. Will be back with the results. :))

Thanks for your input and kind regards,

Gunilla.

Okay...I have checked all kinds of situations with MSAS and the things I
have on my PC and can say that the MSAS is disabled only when I shut it down
completely by right clicking the icon on the system tray and after rebooting
instead of running it again via Start--> Program, but if I run it again
before rebooting it has the real time protection enabled after a reboot.

So it must be that the real time protection becomes disabled, for some
reason, by shutting it down and not running it again and the reboot is not
enabling the protection again. This is what I have found out on my system,
at least.

Gunilla.

Thanks--this is something I've never tested--I'll try to keep an eye out for
it.
