Read Only

Marc

Using Microsoft Excel 2000.

How do I set up a file to be read-only and display the Read-only message
when the file is openned.

Also if the save is saved as something new will the read only carry over??

Thanks

I'm sure Bob meant to say to do this in Windows Explorer.

But I don't think excel will show the ReadOnly message if you do it this way
(which is a very good thing in lots of situations)

Actually it can be done from within the Save As dialog box. It does say
"read-only" in the title bar, but will not throw the "protected dialog
box" and offer to allow you to supply the read/edit password.
