Excel cannot find or read file

Jeff

This is a new install of my Excel 2007 on a new laptop running Windows
8.1. I have 2 problems:

1. When I open Excel, it pops up an error window saying

"Excel cannot open the file '~$UbitMenu04_UK.xlam' because the file
format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been
corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."

When I click OK, the error window disappears and excel seems fine.

2. When I open an earlier xls file, it opens it in [Read-Only]
[Compatibility Mode] which does not let me save it under the existing
filename.

How do I correct these problems?

Thank you.

I searched for the file ~$UbitMenu04_UK.xlam and found it but when I
click on it it opens Excel with the same error window.

When I open the properties of ~$UbitMenu04_UK.xlam it is listed as a
Microsoft Excel Add-in (.xlam) and listed as "opens with Excel".

Delete that file; reinstall UBitMenu (http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/).

Was it part of the original Office 2007 install?
