Read only folders

I am having a time trying to change "read only" folders.
These folders are used in a web site I am creating, and I
need to rename some, and delete others. The "read only"
check box is slightly grayed out, but has a check mark it
it for read only status. When I uncheck this box, Windows
XP goes through the routine of changing this folder and
all enclosed folders/files to not be read only, but when I
right click on "properties" again, it has returned to a
grayed out box, with "read only" status, and I can't do
anything with the folders. Any ideas as to how I can fix
this. I am running Windows XP PRO, IE6, and am signed on
as administrator.

The read only attribute is largely decorative now (IMHO). Windows Explorer
sets this attribute on all folders, but still allows one to change folder
names, cut, paste, etc.

What operations is this blocking?

Drew,
It will not let me delete, or rename the folders.

Windows Explorer does not keep you from deleting or renaming folders if they
have the read-only attribute. In fact the grayed-out check is kinda bogus -
same UI whether or not the attribute is really set.

Have you checked the permissions (security tab on prop sheet)? My hunch is
that files were created in another user's context and don't give write perms
to the administrator. If so, you can take ownership here:
file properties->security->advanced->ownership tab.
