Select the file in Windows Explorer, right-click, choose Properties and
uncheck the Read-Only check box.

How can I get a workable copy into the new machine?

CD's are read only by design. Files copied to CD's are marked as read
only. This is not changed by copying them to the new machine. You only
need to change the file properties (right click on the file on the new
machine) and turn off read only.

Hi, Tom.
How can I get a workable copy into the new machine?

If you were transferring the file from CD to a Windows XP workstation, then
you wouldn't have to do anything. Since you're not, open Windows Explorer
and navigate to the directory where the file is saved on the destination
workstation's hard drive. Right-click on the database file name and select
"Properties" on the pop-up menu. Uncheck the "Read Only" attribute, then
select the "OK" button to save the change.

To explain what happened, the file is marked as "read only" when written to
the CD. Versions of Windows before Windows XP left this file attribute set
when copying the file from CD to hard drive, but Windows XP is set to
automatically change the "read only" file attribute when the file is copied
from the CD.
