READ ONLY "attribute"

Why do all of my folders have the "attribute" "Read Only" assigned to them?
None of the individual files in them is so designated. Also, when I try to
change that "attribute" the change 'does not stick' (going back for a look I
find the original "Read Only" box is still checked). I am the
"Administrator" for this sole user "XP Pro" system, and have no trouble
changing other settings. Thanks, CGS

It is a feature of XP. The page you have been referred to lists what
systems the article applies to. XP is not included. The "read only"
designation of your folders in XP is normal. It has no significance really
to read only attribute.

Read only is an attribute that has no meaning for folders (the
directories are always open for writing), and XP makes an alternative
use of it. You can change it and on Apply it will ask if you want the
change applied to all contained objects, but the display of it for the
folder will revert to greyed
