Read mail disappears

I have a question about Windows mail. I am running Windwos Vista Home
Premium, and my problem is that when I read an email in my inbox, then close
down and reopen mail the mail that has been read, has dissapeared. I have
lost two or three very important mails. Currently I have to save important
mail in a folder I have created called kept mail and that seems to be safe in
there. Can anyone help??

Open Windows Mail > menu bar at top, View > Current View > Show all messages
