Re.: NetBEUI for Win XP Pro & Win 98 SE

I have two computers. One is Win XP Pro (host) and the
other is Win 98 SE (client). Two computers connected by a
cross-over cable using a transport protocol "NetBEUI".
Can ICS use NetBEUI? If not, which transport protocol
should be used and how to configure it for both computers.

Many Thanks!

All Internet access, including ICS, uses the TCP/IP protocol. You can
also use TCP/IP for file and printer sharing on your network.

Nothing in Windows networking requires the NetBEUI protocol, which is
available, but not supported, in Windows XP.

I strongly recommend removing NetBEUI from both computers and using
only TCP/IP on your network. If you really, really want to use
NetBEUI for file and printer sharing, install it on both computers and
then un-bind sharing from TCP/IP on both computers. I've written a
web page with details:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

To protect your network from Internet hackers, enable XP's Internet
Connection Firewall on the host's Internet connection. To allow file
sharing between your computers, disable the Internet Connection
Firewall on the host's home network connection.
