Re: MSN Messanger - Keeps logging me off

Greetings Jon,

Here are a few suggestions that might help:

If you're using ZoneAlarm, try putting it into the "Medium" setting and then see if the
problem disappears. Other third-party firewall applications (like Norton Internet Security,
Sygate, etc.) should have Messenger set to 'Permit All' or 'Allow All'.

If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from your router
manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers local IP into the routers DMZ
setting (see documentation on how to do this).

This can also happen due to a lack of bandwidth. If you have Kazaa, WinMX, GNUtella or some
other file sharing-type application or something else that takes considerable amounts of
bandwidth, you may want to shut it down and see if that helps the situation (even if you're
using a high speed connection, these applications can use most of the resources of your
connection).

Finally, you might try using MSN Messenger 6, which has some new features to stop this from
happening:

Off and on for the past two hours, seems to be working at the moment.
However, I suspect that the preson who wrote is having the same problem. I
think that the system is composed of many different servers located in
several locations and that is what causes the problems to occur in different
locations. It has just now dropped off line again.

I really did not know where they were located; however, it was pretty
obvious to me that some parts of the system was failing. It seems to be
steady now, but a lot of the time when people are having problems connecting
and/or staying connected it appears, to me at least, that the servers are
not working properly.
That is the one advantage that NetMeeting has, in as much it is a one to one
direct connection, however, it is a more diffucult connection method.

I have MSN Messenger 6 and Norton Internet Security 2003. When I boot my PC,
MSN Messenger 6 logs in, then logs out. It is because of my firewall.

My firewall settings are "Permit All" for MSN Messenger 6. I found out in
the firewall logs that MSN Messenger was blocked because it was using SSL
(or something like that). After I login manually, it will be OK; MSN
Messenger 6 will keep me logged in.

I should add that on starting my PC, MSN Messenger starts first, then Norton
firewall, then MSN Messenger logs out. I think it logs out because the
firewall started.

Somehow, automatic login from MSN Messenger is different from manual login.
