I am about to install a new HDD in my pc and am wondering
about re-installing XP. Does anyone know if Microsoft
will supply an update cd so that downloading updates will
be minimised?

Thanks.

A word of advice, go turn on the fire wall BEFORE you go
on the internet or you'll have the blaster virus before
you can get the up-dates.

1. Go to control Panel> Network connections > *Your
connection* rt click >properties, Advanced Tab, check to
enable> The Firewall.

That would be smart to do. I posted to chris's post by
mistake about blaster, read it

No, sorry. Windows Updates must be re-downloaded.
Close, but no cigar. You can download Rollup1 ONCE, then incorporate
them into the XP SP1 slipstream install. They will be isntalled duing
the XP install.

You can get a CD of SP1a - that is all at present.
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp
and down at the bottom is the link to order it. $10 plus S&H

Be sure to get the Firewall enabled before getting any updates, then get
the security roll up one, Q 823980 as the start point (note that this
will then download a lot - it just makes the operation easier)
