Thanks. I think I will pass though, reading the thread on that site it
seems its still not fixed.
I will stick with PC Cillin for a while.

installed without issue, updatet virus-database, no problem.
On reboot Vista displays warnings, says Avast is incompatible,Windows
Defender pops up one time. but it works.
Only issue the icon is not animated - but well...

Main thing is that it is a working virus-protection.
Security Center now also doesn't bother me anymore with warnings, so it must
be working.

The Avast-people will fix the little issues, I am sure.

Sascha,
I just checked what you said;
After reboot;Avast now works fine here; animated;and everything.
If you open up on-access protection control;and then hit details; it'll
expand and show all the stuff; like p2p shields, web shield etc.
on those panels; you can watch it actively scan;whatever program ya want to
see.
Working fine;here;now.

yes, finally it is working here, but the second icon of the avast-tray was
playing crazy, so that all the buttons in my taskbar were sliding for and
back.. I just disabled all tray-icons within Avast and now it is working
silently in background.

2nd icon? the one with the i on it? The one on the left?
Bouncing?
If so;that's supposed to, its a file database;that avast collects;to be able
to restore your files;in the evnt a nasty does get through.
And if it's making Aero go weird on you; just get Java 6; it may be that
Avast uses Java; and Java has a new build out;designed for vista; that might
help ya with that. Chk out this info;

NOTICE: It seems that most, if not all, Java-based Windows applications
disable Aero Glass. This is only temporary and the effects are restored when
the program is closed. This issue has been fixed in the latest builds of
Java 6

I downloaded Avast on Sept 9 and it works great so far.

From the thread, it appears a problem existed if you tried to do a manual
update after installing it. It would revert to a previous version (.871 If I
remember correctly) and overwrite the latest version (.881). Based on the
dialog in the thread, this was corrected on the afternoon of 9/9/2006.

If anyone had downloaded Avast before afternoon of 9/9/2006, it would
probably be a good ideal to go back and get another copy and re-install.
