Random Reboots?

What's the normal reason for completely random reboots? It's just
about once a day, and it's when i'm doing different things that my comp
usually just reboots itself.

AMD 2700+ Tbird
1gb RAM
ATI 9600 Pro
Win XP PRo

thanks

Have you checked on your motherboard on power management, and also whether
the settings under the processor to auto reboot once it reach a certain
temperature.

My 2 cents worth.

That depends. There is no "normal" reason other than hardware
problems.

things that my comp usually just reboots itself.

Disable the automatic restart in order to get an error message
instead: "Windows XP restarts unexpectedly or restarts when you shut
down the computer" http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;320299

There is no such thing as a normal reason for reboots. It can be
hardware or software related. It can be a bad power supply, a bad cpu
fan/sink resulting in overheating, or an application which may/maynot
include an application like a virus.

is there a good app out there that can give me my temp inside?

Yes, but they only work if your motherboard already has the sensors,
which can be viewed in the bios.

i also have the problem about rebooting without any clue.
and after some time trying ,i think that may be caused by the power
supply.....i think u can check it...at first i think it may be the
problem of interrupt conflict...but no. hehe . hope this helps.

Before replacing any hardware components, disable the automatic restart
according to the referred MSKB article 320299.

Open up your case and inspect your motherboard. Look for capacitors
(they look like little cans) that have a bulging, rounded top or have
a brownish looking leak. Just one of these can cause strange, random
errors and reboots.

You are presumably blue-screening, and you are set to reboot
whenever that happens. Right-click My Computer, and choose
Properties. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and
Recovery. Under System failure, uncheck the box "Automatically
restart."

Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you
will get the blue screen with diagnostic information. Post back
with those details for more help.

Thanks Ken, I'll do that, much appreciated.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

But please note that many newsgroup participants don't save
already-read messages. When you post a message like this, without
a quote to remind us what it's about (as I did above), it often
turns out to be incomprehensible to many people here. In fact, if
you hadn't used my name above, I wouldn't have even known this
was in reply to my message.
