random automatic startup of pc

does anybody have any excuse or reason for why my pc should startup
automatically just out of the blue, usually at silly times in the morning. I
have no automatic update programs set to come on, only in the daytime. On the
last occasion i manully disabled my modem so no traffic was entering in or
out of my pc, so i am a little baffled. Can hackers automatically startup
other peoples computers. Is there also a way of finding out which program if
any started up or activated my pc to do this via the event manager? please
help!!!

Startup from a complete off state ?, or some form of Sleep or
hibernation.

Go into the BIOS and disable any Wake On LAN settings. Also check for
what is supposed to happen under Power Failure.
