Quick Launch Replacement

Hello,

I read in the Microsoft Press Vista Inside and Out book that Microsoft has
fixed the Quick Launch bar so that it can no longer be undocked from the
start menu bar (stupid move Microsoft). So now I am wondering if any one
knows of a third party option that would allow me to dock it to the side of
one of my monitors. I don't need anything fancy just something to hold icons
to programs I use often. I have tried the one that is available for the
Gadgets Bar and I don't like it. For some reason the author made it harder
to use than it should be.

So anything like what I am looking for that works and is for Vista? Or, does
someone know how to make Vista release the Quick Launch toolbar?

Thanks,

Found this:

1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop
2. Select New Folder from the context menu
3. Drag this New Folder to the very side of the screen and let go. The
toolbar should run vertically down the side of your desktop.
4. Right-click this new toolbar and select Toolbar and then Quick Launch
5. Right-click this new toolbar again and unselect New Folder
6. Right-click taskbar at the bottom of the screen, select Toolbars, and
unselect Quick Launch.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not following this at all.
1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop
2. Select New Folder from the context menu
3. Drag this New Folder to the very side of the screen and let go. The
toolbar should run vertically down the side of your desktop.

Do you open the folder first before dragging it to the side of the screen?
You say "the toolbar should run vertically..." Are you referring to the
folder?
4. Right-click this new toolbar and select Toolbar and then Quick Launch

By "this new toolbar" do you mean the folder you just created and dragged to
the side? If it's a folder, "Toolbar" won't be one of the right-click
options.

5. Right-click this new toolbar again and unselect New Folder

That doesn't make any sense at all.

No, just drag the folder icon to as far as it will go to the left. It will
CREATE a new toolbar on the side. Right click that new one on the side, go
to toolbar (it will be an option) and select "Quick Launch". Then go back
in, right click the new left toolbar, go to the Toolbar option again and
unselect "New Toolbar". This is make it a Quick Launch only toolbar. Or you
can do what I did and throw some text files that are used often in there,
making them quick and easy to get to.

It sounds hard, but just follow what it says, and you'll have it.

Thanks that is perfect. Exactly what I wanted. Simple and easy and works
great.
