Question for PapaJohn

Thank you for trying to help me yesterday. I have decided to start over on my
creation because I cannot get my movie to play. I would like to be able to
import pictures as overlays on top of another still picture - no videos
involved. Does your software do that? Can you please give me some simple
directions on how to get this to work? I really want to try it but after my
unsuccessful attempt yesterday I am a bit discouraged that I can actually do
it. Do you have easy step-by-step instructions? Thanks.

Ok - I have downloaded the starter kit for Vista - I have done this:

Download the Starter Kit for XP or the Starter Kit for Vista and unzip the
contents.
Put the 10 PNG files into your c:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared folder
Put the xml file into your c:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX
folder.

If you did this while Movie Maker was open, close and reopen it... i
t checks for new xml files as it starts up, adding any new items to the list
of animation choices.

***This is where I am confused**** I have put the PNG files adn the XML
file into the correct place but I don't see any change on my Movie Maker. I
am not sure how to implement the starter kit that I have installed. Please
help....thanks.

First thing.... the AddOnTFX folder doesn't exist and you need to create it
manually... add a new folder named that under the Shared folder. That's the
place for the xml file

Once the xml and png files are in place, when you open Movie Maker, go to
the Tools > Titles and Credits > Title on the selected clip > enter a single
space bar ... not a character.... for the text > Change the Title Animation
scroll down to the set of 10 new ones.... preview, and go from there.

Once you see the starter kit working, change the png files with those of
your own and edit the xml file to change papajohn to alisyn... use notepad

ok - I have done everything. Thanks for your help so far. However, I have a
background (a skyline) that I want to overlay a picture of a person on. I
inserted the picture of the skyline on my clip and then I inserted an overlay
of the picture. However when I play it, the picture of the skyline disappears
and the picture of the person show up. They are not playing simultaneously,
which is what I want. What am I doing wrong?

the .png file of the person needs to have the background around the person
made transparant, and then saved to a .png file that passes the transparancy
along to Movie Maker.

Many graphics apps can make .png files but not of them pass the transparancy
info along to the file. The standard Paint app in Windows can't do it.
Software such as Paint.net, PhotoShop, IrfanView and others can do it. I use
the free Paint.net. There's a link on my Setup Movie Maker > Other Software
page to get it, and a tutorial I wrote about it.

Thank you - I got it....we're almost there. Is there a way to fade the
overlay in and then fade it back out?

Also, is there a way to position them on the screen? They are all appearing
in the bottom right corner and there are about 14 pictures that I want to
fade in and fade out over about 30 seconds. I want them to randomly appear in
different areas. Thanks again

Good...enjoy!!

No, they pop on and off at the start and end of the overlay clip.... it's
up to you to be creative in using them so the start and ending look good.

All of my starter samples are full size images.... you can make yours the
same sizes and they should work fine.

If you use different size overlay images, then yes, you're into using custom
xml code that will position them. You would need to study the info on my
site and other places to get the code and become comfortable tweaking and
using it.

Start with the 'Moving Overlay Images' section on the same page of my
website that you got my starter kit. Check Trugga's Logo Location site....
that should help you a lot in learning about tweaking the code.
