I am far from being a wizard, but I had a dialer that I could not get rid
of. Adaware was finding it, put it in quarantine, and, a new scan was
showing it again. I got rid of it by deleting all the "restore point" no
trace of it since

A hidden process is bringing "faxas.exe" back that's running on the
machine. The hidden process is piggy backing off of some other process that
is running on the machine possibly. You can use the tools in the link like
Process Explorer that will allow you to look at all running processes and
look inside a process to expose the hidden processes using a process. You
may be able to spot something that way.

PE and some of the other tools can kill the process if you can get PE
installed on the machine. PE is just an exe with no real installation.

If AdAware ("lavasoft") and Spybot S&D can't detect your problem, you need
intensive diagnosis. I would use HijackThis, and expert advice.

Start by downloading each of the following free tools:
HijackThis <http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155>
LSP-Fix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>
WinsockXPFix <http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html>

Create a separate folder for HijackThis, such as C:\HijackThis - copy the
downloaded file there. LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFix can be stored in, and run from,
any convenient folder.

Then, run HijackThis ("Scan"). Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the
HJT Log.

Finally, have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the
following security forums (and please post a link to your forum posts, here):
Aumha: <http://forum.aumha.org/index.php>

Spyware Info: <http://forums.spywareinfo.com/>

If removal of any spyware affects your ability to access the internet (some
spyware builds itself into the network software, and its removal may damage your
network), run LSP-Fix and / or WinsockXPFIx.

Hello,

Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you , but just to let
you know I am in the exact same boat as you! I have tried Mcaffee and
Ad-aware removal from "download.com". Supposedly, my brother in law
read someplace on the Ad-aware site that they now recognize the
faxes.exe, however, we just upgraded the Ad-aware, and faxas still
shows up when we sign on. We too are ending the process so we can work
online... It is SO frustrating because I am afraid to do anything
online like normal, such as email, purchase... If you make any
progress, I'd love to know... Thanks
