Purchased Sony Vaio w/o XP Pro CD, but have numbers, Help.

Can I get the original CD's from Sony? I purchased this Sony Vaio from a
friend, the original owner. He lost his original Win XP Pro CD, but the
number or the code, is on a MS label on the case. His HD was bad, so I
installed a smaller HD from my laptop. I recently upgraded my laptop to a
bigger HD. The idea was good, but the Sony wants me to activate the OS, but
I better not do it, because I still use it on my own laptop. Any suggestions
will be appreciated very much........Peter.......

Thank you Carey for the help. I went to that site, and looked at almost all
areas, and the FAQ's, but was unable to see the answers to what to do if you
like to have another copy or even the first copy of your MS operating
system. Of course I know I have to pay for it, but like to get some sort of
brake if possible. I realize it is not MS or anybody else's fault, I just
like to be able to say, hey I tried, and so and so was very nice and helped
right along. Will this be help from Sony or will it be only from
MS.........Peter

Thanks for the reply as well, I tried that also, and could not find a number
to push for the request I had. I listened to all options, and none indicated
anything in regard to purchasing a replacement CD for the OS. Of course I
have all serial numbers, receipts etc..............Peter

For XP supplied with a computer system.

The OEM licenses the software to the purchaser. MS is not involved in any way. It like if you buy a car, although Bosch may have made the spark plugs (do they still have these things?) you bought the Car, with plugs, from Ford. If the spark plugs don't work you take it to Ford, your supplier, not Bosch, Ford's supplier.
