Hi,
I am using outlook 2003. Everytime I reboot my desktop my .pst gets
corrupted and I can't recover any mails using scanpst.exe. On contacting the
helpdesk they told me it could be because the .pst was on the desktop, which
I find a bit wierd. Any way to recover the mails.

HI,
My Local IT hellp desk.
The .pst was located on the desktop.
It's a microsoft exchange server. So I kept moving my moving to the local
pst whenever the quota was full. Lost two pst on two re-boots and scanpst.exe
is unable to recover the mails from the damaged pst.

Is the PST on the desktop a shortcut or is it the actual PST?

The location of the actual PST shouldn't matter but you should also realize
that your PST won't be backed up if you don't do it yourself. However, if
you keep your PST on a network drive, that might explain the corruption
since any interruption in network traffic between Outlook and a PST that's
not kept locally on the PC can cause this problem.

What errors are you seeing that tells you that your PST is corrupt? What
size is your PST? Was it brought over from an older version of Outlook?

Hi,
No, it was not on network drive. The actual .pst was on the desktop and not
the shortcut. When I reboot It is not added to my outlook profile. When I try
to add the .pst it says the file is corrut and should be scanned using
scanpst.exe.
However, the recovered .pst has no mails.

Search your harddrive for all PST's to see if there are others. Make sure
you click the Advanced button when you search so you can include hidden
folders and files.
