.pst file import to Windows Mail

I am trying to import my old emails into Windows Mail. After I have selected
files - import - messages and selects Microsoft Outlook, I get the error
message that messages/emails cannot be imported from the MAPI client. It
does not make any difference when I select Microsoft exchange or Microsoft
Outlook or Outlook express or Windows Mail. I always gets the same message.
Can somebody help me to solve this issue???

Thanks

You can use "Windows Easy transfer" which is located in the "Welcome Center"
in Control Panel.

If you follow the instructions carefully it will transfer eevrything from
Outlook Express in XP to Windows Mail in Vista except your passwords. That
includes all your old emails, newsgroups, messages sent etc. I transferred
three email accounts and two usenet accounts. Even the message rules were
transferred.

I would recommend that you start with an "Empty" Windows Mail in Vista
before transferring to avoid complications.

At some point in the transfer process, you will be invited to select what
you want transferred - take your time over this. You may not want to
transfer all the files in your My Documents Folder for example - it was many
gigs in my case.

It is worth taking the time to do this - it really does work impressively
well.

To import from a PST file Outlook must be installed. You can download a
30-day trial version of Outlook 2007.

With the help of Wayne, I found that you don't need Outlook but can use
Outlook Express to import Outlook 2003 PST files which converts them to dbx
files which then can be imported into Vista Mail. See the conversations
below.

Wayne's suggestion worked just fine thank you so much Wayne. The only
thing I needed to do defferent, since my files were in Outlook 2003 not
Outlook Express, was to first open Outlook Express on my old computer and
import my Outlook 2003 files from that same computer. This converted them to
the dbx files you refered to. I was then able to follow your instructions.
I copied the dbx files into a folder on a thumb drive, inserted the thumb
drive into my new computer, opened Vista Mail pointing it to the thumb drive
which worked just like you said. I now have recovered all my old e-mails.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer.
