Quick blow are straight inside

Slow are coiled so it takes a lot more than the straight fuse for it to actually burn out. Basically because its coiled it need to heat up a lot more for it to burn out

Edit* forgot to mention the resistance it has as well due to the coiling ;)

U can always use a smaller battery and a bulb out of a torch

Put the fuse in between the battery and bulb to close circuit ;)

ah u know what i mean :D

Actually, a slo-blo is better suited to this. With the switching natures and quick on-off, loads can jump temporarily. A slo-blo will keep you working while also protecting you against shorts.

Now we is all gonna look like idiots if it turns out to be a bunch of knackard speakers or transformer. Did you test them in another socket outlet??

Just wait till Floppy gets home ... he'll have other ideas.

No m8 he was just asking for a second opinion :)

LOL

It could even be a small internal resistor fuse that might have gone O/C

What is the worst that can happen ? it don't work now ... so?

It do not matter if glass or ceramic ... both are made of sand. ;)

time to spend £1.99 on a pack of ten glass made out of sand fuses for which I only need one for abt 2 years!!!
:)

and if that fails i think it will be time to ring up logitech and send them out the control unit at least
i dont fancy sending out the subwoofer how much would 40kg cost for p and p?
:)

Sorry lads, first time I been here for over 24 hours, went to a party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Meridian Magazine last night, free food, free beer, disco, band, wall to wall female :)

So I got a little plastered last night, overslept, was late for hospital appointment at Guys so they made me wait two hours but good news is I am healthy, apparently :)

Anyway, all that twaddle is of little consequence to this thread, isn't it?

What blew was a 20mm ceramic slo-blo fuse. As mentioned before, by Mucks I think, ceramic fuses are used where there is a chance they may shatter, for safety reasons, but a 2A 20mm glass fuse is perfectly acceptable in most cases. Glass fuses also have the advantage that you can actually see if they've blown.

Slo-blo fuses, as mentioned, can stand a short surge of current without blowing and a sub-woofer would probably draw such a surge at switch on. Fuses, particularly slo-blo ones, do get tired and wil often blow every few years or so for no reason. So, PSD99, don't worry about it unless it keeps happening.

Slo blo fues are marked 'T' which stands for 'Time' and fast blow fuses are marked 'F' for 'Fast'.

NEVER use a higher rated fuse than the one specified.

And I was quite pleased to see, looking through this thread, that nobody recommended wrapping a piece of silver foil round the fuse and wacking it back in

That be dangerous, that be.

And PSD99, which Mary is that then, your Aunt Mary or The Queen Mary? ;)

on a serious note, thanks for all the help but you are 4 hours too late!
just be glad nothing blew up on me or I woulda had my lawers out to meet you tomorow morning!
just a joke! :)

yer cheers for the electronic information im very poor in this department! when i got to the maplins shop today i coundt remember if it was a 2a or a 3a but something told me it was 2a im pretty good with numbers and the guy said it was 2a!

didnt know nothing abt wrapping old fuse in foil and hammering on it
worth a try or what?
what will it achieve

and of course im talking about the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY! The Lord Jesus's mother.
when something goes good for me its my choice of words
'Hail Mary'

:)

p.s get excercising my old mucker there is always room for improvement :)

NO! It is most definitely not worth a try

What will it achieve? Could achieve lots of things, from mild scorch marks to a full house fire, from malfunction of speaker system to tripped circuit breaker on main board.

Do not do that thing, lol, it's an old bodge, it's very unsafe and I had my tongue very firmly in my cheek when I mentioned it.

(Good grief, now I know why I see all those seemingly silly little legal phrases everywhere.......)

*sigh* ok, me get serious. Mucks suggested 'tasting' a battery, it gives your tongue a mild tingle. If you put your suspect fuse in series with the battery and tasted the battery again, the sensation or lack of sensation would prove/disprove continuity and thus if fuse was good or open circuit.

As you didn't possess a multimeter to test continuity, seemed like a good stopgap to me.

And no way did I say use a hammer, I merely used the phrase 'wacking it in' in a light hearted manner as the whole silver foil thing was meant to be a funnae :)

It will actually work, but...... ohmigawd, there I go again....... :D
