You don't have to do it every day.

1) Enable Automatic Updates
2) Install and update a good anti-virus scanner
3) Enable the XP firewall or install a good IPSEC firewall for 2K
4) Read the MS security bulletins
5) Update your AV scanner at least once a week
6) Enable System Restore (XP)
7) Tell your friends items 1) - 6)
8) In an emergency go to the MS corp home page or security home page.
Instructions will be provided ASAP for how to cope.
