Projector bug with Powerpoint 2007

Hello since moving to PPT 2007 I have had a bug with my presentations hen
connecting to a projector. When I start powerpoint all goes well. But once I
try to advance to the second slide the presentation loops back to the first
slide. It is also impossible to start the slideshow manually on another slide
- it automatically goes back to the first slide.
I am using a laptop Dell Inspiron 9300, Windows XP SP2 and Office 2007
Educators edition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Professor,

we had a similar problem recently with a Dell laptop (I hope, it's not a
hardware issue). Could you please answer the following questions:

- Is any other program active when you start your presentation? (Of special
interest are programs which perform regular tasks like Outlook or a Virus
scan program.) If yes, which one?

- Which operating system do you use? Vista or Windows XP?

- Did you activate kiosk mode? How would you normally change slides: with a
simple mouse click or with a link?

- Did you create this presentation in PowerPoint 2007? Or was it created in
an older version of PowerPoint (which one?), if so, is it a PPT or
PPTX/PPTM?

Best regards,
Ute

Does this happen with any external display or only the one projector? Can
you try connecting to other displays or projectors? See if the problem
persists on other external displays. What brand and model is the projector
that gives you the problem?

Hi Ute,

Thanks for your response.
In answer to your questions:
1. Yes it is a dell laptop and I hope it isn't a hardware problem either (I
have never had any problem in the past)
2. Usual anti-virus programs and other processes running. Antivirus is
McAfee, Google Desktop running in the background
3. XP as mentioned
4. No kiosk mode
5. Page advance by click or arrow, no links
6. Presentation created in 2007 on the basis of a 97 PPT, now in PPTX

I am going to guess it has something to do with one of the many "extras"
that Dell installs on their computers. I have business class Dell's so they
come with different features, but if you look around there is most likely a
power utility that may effect things going to an external monitor or a
display utility that is effecting the external monitor use.

The one question not asked is are you cloning the display (same image on
laptop monitor as projector) or an extended desktop setup (different images
between two)?

Hi,

Have already tried both. Also, have used PPT for many years, this problem
has only showed up with 2007 and seems to be a problem across projectors.

To answer another question posted, I am cloning the laptop monitor.

thanks again to all for your help.

Also, important nugget of information you should all know, when the
presentation (still in pptx) to another laptop it worked perfectly with the
same projector as I attempted to use.

so it is probably some driver or software conflict or a bug with XP?!

Professor....

I see you replied to all but my questions. These are important
troubleshooting steps. You need to continue a process of elimination.
Please see my first post.

I have the exact problem, new dell latitude 630, xp system powerpoint 2007.
It will not operate as described. I had to download to a flash and run on
another computer and it worked fine, makes me think it is a dell problem.
This problem exists on my projector as well as another one.

Would love to know the solution.
