Projecting PowerPoint Presentation to a Screen

L

Laura

I'm brand new to PowerPoint, even though I'm working with
an old version (PowerPoint 97). I'm preparing a
presentation for an upcoming conference. I think I've
figured out how to do what I want to do in the
presentation, but I'd like to be able to project the
presentation not to another computer screen but rather to a
large screen or wall so that a medium-to-large audience can
see the slides. Another presenter said she will have the
appropriate equipment and cables, but she said you need
special software to do this. So I think I will need to
transfer my presentation to her computer.

I have two questions:
1. Is it possible to project my presentation to a screen
using the software that came with PowerPoint 97?
2. If I put my presentation on a CD to use with my
colleague's computer, will it cause problems with the fonts
or layout?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thank you.

Assuming you carry a laptop that can be connected to a projector, I don't
think you require any other equipment. If the venue provides sound output,
you might want a cable that links your laptop sound output to their system.

Having said that, the best thing to do would be to go to the venue a day or
two before the showing (or a few hours ago) and check up everything.

If the large screen or projector can connect to the socket in the PC where
the monitor gets connected, then you don't need any more equipment. But you
might want to ask the dimensions of the large screen. Normal monitors have
4:3 width-to-height ratio and a presentation's page setup is configured for
this ratio (see "File" | "Page Setup..." menu item). If the large screen's
ratio is different from this, you need to adjust the presentation's page
setup to match that.
