Programs that start on Startup

I have some programs that automatically start on startup and then just sit
there in the Hidden Icons" area of the Toolbar. These are things that I
almost never use (Quicktime, RealPlayer, etc.), but I dont want to remove the
programs from my system - I just dont want them to automatically start
running when I log in. I have already looked in my "Stertup Program" menu
and they are not there. How do I prevent these programs from running when I
log in?

Lots of pissbile answers;

Easiest Method (Technical Ability Required) - Use regedit and navigate to
the keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windwows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windwows\CurrentVersion\Run
Deleteing the Entries for the files that you dont want to run at start up.
(Tip:: You use this method in safe mode for certain startup virus removal)

OR

Download and install windows Defender (It has lots of other Obvious Uses)

Run Windows Defender and Click on Tools then software explorer;
By default - startup programs come up first - if you dont see these choose
startup programs form the drop down box.
Now select remove for each application that you dont want to start with
windows.

First of all, look in the Program's Options for an option that controls the
program to start when you log in. If you cannot find the options to control
this behaviour then edit the registry to remove the start up entries.
Typically you will find the entries at these two common areas of the
registry.

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

If you use Spybot - Search and Destroy, you could stop Quicktime from
loading when you log in by following these directions.
