program not responding

everytime I log on to my computer 8 out of 10 times it locks up. I an able to
pull up task manager and log out to log back in but everytime I log out this
program called "explorer.exe" will not be responding. I have though about
deleting this program but a message will show up "deleting this program will
cause your computer to be unstable and cause other programs to your computer.
Can anyone help me one this?

Don't delete this program. Perhaps you are going through the beginning of
hardware problems.
